A first time Olympian, Omari Jones secured his place on Team USA with a win in the welterweight division at the first World Qualification Tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy in early March, 2024. Since winning the 71kg title at the US Elite National Championships in 2020 and a silver medal at the Elite World Championships in 2021, his first international tournament, Omari, now 21, has been regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the nation.
In 2023, the year that he joined the NYAC’s Elite Boxing Program, he also won the USA Boxing International Invitational and the GeeBee International Tournament.
Having taking up the sport of boxing when he was eight years old, Omari quickly showed talent; at 15, he earned a silver medal at the National Junior Olympics, a feat that he points to as the turning point in his career and the moment when his Olympic dream was born.
