Renowned as a fearsome shooter, at the Tokyo Olympic Games, his first, Max tallied eight goals, assisting Team USA to its eventual sixth place finish. In 2023, he indicated that his shooting arm is more powerful than ever with 15 goals at the World Aquatics World Cup in Los Angeles, another 15 at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, and 25 at the Pan American Games in Santiago, the second highest on Team USA.
This year has seen that momentum continue, with nine goals at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha. That is the firepower that Max will be bringing to Paris and that he, and the team, hope will take them to the podium.
Max’s father, Michael Irving, is a men’s college basketball referee.
