Hannes made his Olympic debut in Tokyo at 20 years of age. In those Games, the team placed sixth, its highest position since winning silver medals in 2008. Hannes brings a wealth of experience to his second Games, including four world championships (2019, 2022, 2023, 2024 – he scored 14 goals in the latter), two Pan Am Games gold medals (2019, 2023) and a 2023 World Cup bronze medal.
While attending the University of Southern California, Hannes and the Trojans claimed the 2018 NCAA D1 title; he was also a multi-time All-American. Hannes’ mother is German and his father is from New Zealand. His sister, Eike, also played water polo for USC.
