Angie is among the most experienced judokas on the Team USA, Paris being her third outing at the Olympic Games. In Rio in 2016, she placed 17th, a position she improved to ninth at the Tokyo Games in 2021. Other career highlights include three Pan Am Games bronze medals (2011, 2015, 2023), five Pan Am Championships silvers (2015, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2024), and three Pan Am Championships bronze medals.
Angie graduated from Florida International University in 2021 with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and is married to her former Senior World Championships teammate, Alex Turner.
It was her father, Miguel, however, who introduced her to the sport of judo. A former member of the Cuban national team, he fled to the US in the 1980s and, when Angie was nine years old, began to teach her in the back yard, instilling in her the dream of becoming an Olympian.
