The Paris Olympic Games will be the fourth in which Anni has competed, winning silver medals in both 2012 and 2021 and establishing herself as one of Spain’s most prolific goal scorers. In 2012, she was the second leading scorer overall at the Games in London, the tournament in which Spain made its Olympic debut (and claimed the silver medal). That same year, Anni was also named European Women’s Water Polo Player of the Year.
Soon after, she enrolled at the University of Southern California and helped guide the women’s team to the 2013 NCAA Championship title, a game in which she scored the winning goal in a triple-sudden-death victory over Stanford, the longest game in the tournament’s history. That same year, Anni was a member of the team that brought the FINA world championships title to Spain.
Three years later, in 2016, she was similarly impactful, assisting the Spanish team to win silver medals at the FINA Super Finals. At the 2019 FINA World Championships, Anni earned another silver medal, assuring Spain of its place at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Those were the Games, of course, in which she claimed her second Olympic silver medal.
Paris Result:
Gold medal.
