Steve grew up playing rugby with his uncles and cousins, and became involved in the organized side of the sport when he was 16 years old. His ability was quickly evident, and he made his debut with the US sevens team in 2013 while still a teenager. In 2016, at 21 years old, he was the youngest of the 26 players vying for a place on the US 12-man roster for the Rio Olympic Games, but missed out on selection.
Despite intermittent injury in the 2017-18 tournament season, he powered back for the 2018-19 Sevens Series, playing in every match en route to the USA’s best ever second-place finish. He was a member of the US squad that placed sixth at the Tokyo Games in 2021 and, in 2022, was selected to represent the United States at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town. This year, at his second Olympic Games, Steve will be a linchpin of the team hoping for medals in Paris.
Paris Result:
8th place.
